Chernihiv is located in Northeast of Ukraine, on the border with Belarus and Russia. It is one of the oldest European cities. Chernihiv situated in the north of Ukraine. First it was mentioned in 907 in "The Chronicle of Bygone Years", written by historian Nestor, as the second biggest city of Kievan Rus after Kyiv. Here is situated the oldest church in the city and in the whole Ukraine - the 5-domed Saviour Cathedral, commissioned in the early 1030s by Mstislav the Bold and completed several decades later by his brother, Yaroslav the Wise.
The population of the city is around 295,500.
