Charkiv is situated in the east of Ukraine in the territory of steppe and forest-steppe zones. It is the second largest city in Ukraine. Its population is 1,461,300. Charkiv was founded in the middle of 17th century. Charkiv was the capital of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1917 till 1934.
It’s one of the biggest cultural, educational and industrial centers of Ukraine. Charkiv has deposits of oil and natural gas, coal and iron ore what reflected on the city’s specialization – machinery and arms production.
