Originally Ukrainians were pagan, but over 1,000 years ago they turned to Orthodoxy. However, nowadays many people are interested in paganism, spiritual things, different religions and have formed certain type of personal position on religious issues. Many Ukrainians believe that God is one, no matter what religion you confess.
Eastern Orthodox Christianity is the dominant religion in Ukraine. It splits between three Church bodies: Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kiev Patriarchate), Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
There are many Catholic, Protestant and Baptist communities in Ukraine. Muslims, Buddhists and those who believe in Krishna are also present in Ukraine.
The culture of Ukraine has taken a lot both from eastern and western culture. Mostly it was influenced by ancient pagan roots and Christianity. Ukrainians love to dance and sing. Holiday is the imprescriptible part of their lives. New Year, Christmas, International Women’s Day, Easter, International Labor Day, Victory Day, Holy Trinity Day, Constitution Day, Independence Day and other holidays are widely celebrated in Ukraine.
