Dnepropetrovsk is Ukraine's third largest city. It is located bank of the Dnieper River. The biggest part of the city lies on the high left bank, other part – on the left one. The river keeps the climate mild and the air fresh.
Dnepropetrovsk was founded in 1776. Since the beginning of the 20 century it became one of the biggest metallurgical centers.
There are 11 national universities and several private ones in Dnepropetrovsk. Most of them are situated on one prospect, one after another, so if you pass there in the morning you can see thousands of students hurrying on studies. The central Street of the city is a long, wide and beautiful parkway. It was founded in the eighteenth century and parts of its buildings are the actual decoration of the city.
You can choose a place you’d like to spend time at from a variety of beautiful parks, museums, theatres. In the heart of the city is Zhovtneva (October) Square, which includes the majestic cathedral founded in 1787 by the order of Catherine the Great. One of the most interesting places in the city is Monastyrsky (Monastery) Island. It is named after a monastery that was founded here in the 9 century by the Byzantine monks and was destroyed by Mongol-Tatars in the XIII century.
