Ukraine situated in Eastern Europe and is the second largest country in Europe and the 44th in the world. Ukraine borders with Russia, Byelorussia, Moldova, Rumania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and is washed by the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. There are many rivers which cross the country such as The Dnieper, Dniester, Seversky Donets, Southern Buh and many other smaller ones. In Ukraine you can find mountains in the west – the Carpathian Mountains, and in the south – the Crimean Mountains. Steppes and plateaus make Ukraine’s landscape.
The climate of Ukraine is continental and subtropical only on the southern coast of the Crimea. The climate varies in different parts of the country. Summers are warm across the whole country, especially in the south and winters are cool along the Black Sea and get the colder the farther you move to the center and north of Ukraine. Average winter temperature is 7-8 degrees below zero. There is more snow in the western and northern parts of Ukraine than in the east and south. The weather is dry in the south and east. It often rains in the west, in the Carpathian Mountains.
