Uzhhorod is located in western Ukraine, at the border with Slovakia and near the border with Hungary. The name of the city comes from the Uzh River, which divides the city into two halves (the old and new sections). “Uzh” means eel, and” horod” means city. Uzhhorod is a beautiful city where Ukrainian culture and language are respected very much.
Since 1991 Uzhhorod has become one of 23 regional capitals within Ukraine. Of these, Uzhhorod is the smallest and westernmost. The population of the city is around 111,300.
